This is an excellent example of one of an estimated 5,000 Army Model percussion revolvers manufactured by the Rodgers & Spencer Company of Willow Dale, New York for a U.S. Ordnance contract issued in November 1864. The Rodgers & Spencer revolvers were delivered too late to be issued during the Civil War and were sold as surplus. These were a well designed solid frame revolver finished with a high polished blue with casehardened hammer, trigger and loading lever. The top strap is marked "ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA N-Y". The matching serial number appears on the barrel, cylinder, frame and butt, with "B" sub-inspector marks on several parts. Cone front and frame groove rear sights, and fitted with smooth oil finished walnut grips, with a "RPB" inspector's cartouche on the left panel.
