Excellent U.S. American Machine Works Civil War Smith Patent Carbine
Blade front sight and folding elevator rear sight on barrel with the distinctive spring steel latch and inside-the-guard release. Full marks on left side of the action: "MANUFACTURED BY/ AM'N. M'CH'N.WKS/ SPRINGFIELD. MASS.", "SMITH'S PATENT/ JUNE 23. 1857" and "ADDRESS/POULTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, U.S.A." around the saddle ring bar. Smooth straight grip stock, with a "JH" cartouche on the left side of the wrist and "J.N.W" stamped ahead of the smooth carbine buttplate.

Condition: Excellent, with 90% plus of the slightly faded original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, high edge wear and scattered spotting and handling marks. 90% case colors remains on the frame, darkening slightly, with spotting on the trigger guard and vivid colors in the protected areas. Stock is also excellent, with mild pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
