Excellent Steyr Model 1871 Serial Number 2 Bolt Action Cadet Prototype Rifle
The left upper flat of the octagon receiver is marked "OESTERR. WAFFEN FABR.GES. / Steyr" followed by a large "Y=1874". The front left flat of the receiver and breech end of the barrel are marked with the serial number "2". The matching number appears on the bolt extractor housing. The top of the receiver and barrel at the breech are marked with a script "H" and "1877" on the upper right side barrel flat at the breech. The top of the bolt handle is marked with an "S" and "W". Inverted "v" front sight and carbine style ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Blue barrel and receiver, bright bolt assembly and brass barrel bands (three) and trigger guard. The barrel bands are marked "2". Mounted with a one piece varnished straight grip stock with a flat brass buttplate. Complete with an iron button head cleaning rod.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel and receiver retain 98% original finish with some mild thinning on the muzzle and a few overall scattered minor scratches. The bolt assembly remains bright with some discoloration on the handle. The brass components have an aged patina. The stock is very good with almost all of the varnish remaining and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. Sharp markings. The action is excellent.
