Excellent Springfield Armory M1D Sniper Rifle
This is a very nice example of a mid WWII M1 Garand rifle that was converted into the desirable M1D Sniper rifle, that was probably issued during the Korea or Vietnam War time frame. The M1D was built using standard M1 rifles and installing a special M1 Sniper barrel as manufactured at Springfield Armory. These barrels were manufactured from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953 and the conversion was done at Springfield as well as other Army Depots. This rifle is marked on the receiver "U.S. RIFLE CAL 30 M1 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" over 1547687 and the barrel is marked SA-3-52. The operating rod is an original WWII Winchester marked version that has been modified for post war use and the balance of the parts is mix of Springfield Armory manufacture. It has a nice walnut stock and hand guard set and the pistol grip area has a single circled "P" and the stock is fitted with a correct M1D leather lace on sniper cheek piece marked "MRT 2-52" on the side. The rifle is complete with only a green canvas GI sling with a T-37 flashider.
