Excellent Springfield Armory M1 Garand National Match Rifle
This is an excellent example of a late production Springfield Armory M1 Garand Type I National Match (NM) Rifle, that was subsequently upgraded to a Type II configuration. The rifle has a green parkerized finish with oil-finish walnut stock, hand guard, and forearm. The rifle has the typical modifications and markings found on Type II NM rifles manufactured in 1962-63.The front hand guard and barrel band have been correctly unitized (glued and screwed together) and the action and trigger group have been glass bedded into the stock. The left side of the barrel, the top of the operating rod, the windage knob and front sight are all stamped "NM" and the right side of the rear sight base is marked "NM" only. The rifle has a NM hooded rear sight aperture marked "595" and "NM". The left side of the barrel chamber is stamped with the drawing number - "SA 6535448", the date-" 8-56", two "P" proof mark, one "T" targeting mark and one small "M" proof. The various parts or components are all of late Springfield manufacture and carry the late drawing numbers. The stock has the correct National Defense Acceptance mark stamped on the left side below the rear sight and an encircled "P" proof mark on the inside of the pistol grip. It is complete with a unmarked 1907 type leather sling with steel hooks, with a nickel plated oiler tube inside the butt trap compartment.

Excellent overall with 99% of the original parkerized finish with just some minor edge and high spot wear. The stock and hand guards are all in excellent condition showing only some very minor handling marks in a couple of places. An excellent example of a scarce National Match M1 Garand rifle.
