Excellent Sharps New Model 1865 Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured between 1865 and 1866 with a total production of approximately 5,000. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the three line address, "NEW MODEL 1865" at the breech and "C" and "R.S.L" on the left side at the breech. The lock is marked with the two line C. Sharps and R.S. Lawrence patent dates and the upper left side of the receiver is marked with the two line C. Sharps patent date. The matching serial number is marked on the upper tang and the bottom of the barrel under the forearm. Brass blade front sight, Lawrence patent marked rear folding sight graduated to 800 yards. Blue barrel, casehardened remaining parts and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a saddle ring bar and ring on the left wrist and a small "crown/EB" stamped on the right side of the stock. Comes with a small wooden plaque with inscribed brass plate.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish with a couple of minor dings and a small amount of light spotting. The lock, receiver and hammer retain at least 90% original case colors. The lever and buttplate have a smooth dark patina. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered minor dents and dings, mainly concentrated on the forearm. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
