Excellent Scarce Winchester Model 1200 Trench Shotgun with U.S. Markings
These were the standard commercial Winchester Model 1200 shotguns produced during the late 1960s and mid early 1970s that were purchased/adapted for the military by adding a bayonet lug/heat shield to the barrel and U.S. markings on the receiver. Most were destroyed after they were replaced by the Mossberg 500 series shotguns in the mid 1980s. The barrel is equipped with a four hole pattern heat shield with the bayonet lug attachment on the front end, that is secured to the barrel with three cap head socket screws. The bayonet lug on this shotgun is unmarked and is designed to fit the M5 bayonet. The top of the barrel and receiver have the standard Winchester circled "WP" proof marks and is correctly stamped "CYL" on the left side of the barrel in front of the receiver. The barrel is marked on the left side under the ventilated portion of the heat shield with "WINCHESTER MODEL 1200-12GA. 2 3/4 CHAM/MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL." The underside of the receiver is stamped with the serial number 335343 over "U.S.". The stock and pump handle are walnut with an oil finish that is fitted with a black plastic serrated Winchester Repeating Arms butt plate, with a military style sling swivel on the lower butt stock with the wire bail upper sling swivel on the bayonet lug. The barrel has a gray-green parkerized finish while the magazine tube, slide, forend cap and bayonet lug/heat shield have a blued finish and the receiver has a black anodized finish.
