This is an excellent example of a Remington Model 700/M40A1 Marine Corps sniper rifle that is fitted with Redfield 3X-9X Accu-Range telescopic sight. The rifle represents the intermediate configuration of the M40 sniper rifle used by the Marines from 1977 until the adoption of the Unertl 10X USMC Sniper Scope in 1980. The rifle is fitted with a heavy barrel with recessed crown. The receiver is fitted with a Redfield telescopic sight base and rings. The rifle has a fiberglass stock with impregnated, three-color, camouflage pattern. The stock is fitted with a Pachmyr "White Line" recoil pad. The rifle has a hinged floor plate and steel trigger guard; the floor plate and trigger guard are secured with Allen head screws. The barrel, receiver, bolt and trigger guard have a dark parkerized finish. The scope base and rings are blued. The telescopic sight has an olive green anodized finish. The left side of the receiver is stamped "U.S./221596" over the chamber followed by the roll-stamped "REMINGTON/MODEL 700" markings opposite the ejection port. The only visible marking on the barrel is the small number "1530" on the right side just above the edge of the stock. The rifle serial number "221596" is stamped on the left side of the scope base and correctly electro-penciled on the left side of the scope tube and on the underside of the bolt. The Vietnam era Redfield 3X-9X Accu-Range telescopic sight has the unique built-in range indicator scale and two additional stadia wires above the standard wire cross-hairs. The objective lens has a hinged, "Butler Creek", lens cover.
