Manufactured in 1929, this is an excellent example of one of only 506 Single Action Army revolvers manufactured in the .44 S&W Special Cartridge. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, with the die break in the "O" in "Hartford", "RUSSIAN/S&W SPECIAL 44" on the left side and the two line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and right side of the grip straps under the grip. The inside of each grip panel is numbered to the gun. The partial serial number "17" is marked on the rear cylinder face. The matching assembly number "198" is marked on the loading gate and right side, rear of the frame. The upper left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with the number "3" over the Colt "VP" triangle proof. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, casehardened frame, with blue remaining parts, polished hammer sides and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The revolver is complete with a deep purple hinged lid factory box correctly hand numbered to the gun, with correct end labels, (see close-up). The interior has the standard, black and white, "COLT'S REVOLVERS" advertisement label on the inside of the lid, which is over another Colt label, and on the bottom of the carton. In the box is an extra pair of smooth two-piece oil finished walnut grips.
