Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1893
This is an excellent example of an all original late production Model 1893 Borchardt pistol that was produced by the DWM factory. These are highly desirable and not encountered near as often as the Loewe produced example and are the direct predecessor to the DWM 1899/1900 Luger pistols. Originally these pistols were marketed under the name WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN however sometime in approximately 1895 that company merged with the Deutsche Matallpatronenfabrik of Karlsruhe forming the new company of DWM. Consequently this pistol is actually a later model manufactured under the new name. The right side of the barrel extension is now marked in three lines: "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT/DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND-MUNITIONSFABRIKEN./BERLIN.". The top of the toggle link is stamped "D.R.P./No. 75837". The pistol serial number "1475" is visible on the stock lug, the bottom of the pistol grip, the left side of the trigger, the left side of the toggle link, the rear underside of the barrel and on the wooden base of all four original magazines. The left side of the barrel has the standard "Crown" over "B", "U" and "G" proofs, over the bore dimensions of "172,28". Additionally the left front edge of the barrel extension, the left side of the breechblock and toggle assembly have the standard Crown over the "B" and "U" acceptance proofs. As noted this pistol rig is complete with four original matching wood base magazines, the original walnut shoulder stock with attaching iron, original black leather holster, original walnut cheekpiece, original dummy (walnut) magazine with the brass oiler on the base, the leather shoulder strap, an original two piece brass cleaning rod with brass jag, two pin-punches and the original black leather covered Borchardt pistol carrying/storage case.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 7.65 Borchardt Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 1475
Condition:
Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with minor edge and high spot wear, some wear areas showing where the toggle was cycled or the stock lug was attached. The walnut grips are very fine plus overall with 25% of the original varnish around the edges. Both grips have nice original distinct checkering, with the left grip showing two minor light pressure dents in the center section. The walnut stock is actually a highly figured version ( the only one this describer has seen) that shows minor pressure dents and dings from light use and the lower left side showing some chips along the edge. The walnut cheekpiece is also very fine showing only minor handling marks overall. The black leather holster is very good overall with the surface of the leather still intact showing only minor age cracking across the face of the leather. The stitching along the edge, bottom and the toe plug have all been removed, but the leather is undamaged. All four magazines are excellent. The leather storage/carrying case is good with the locks and corner still intact, with the actual leather covering on the outside in fair condition, showing much fading and wear on the top and bottom. The lid itself actually has three cracks; two larger ones at the top with a smaller one just starting on the lower right hand corner. The front locks/clasps, hinges and carrying strap are all intact. Although the case does show wear, it did it's job and kept/protected the pistol and accessories in excellent condition. Still a very rare and very desirable all matching Borchardt Pistol rig with four matching magazines.
