Excellent Rare Cased Factory Silver Plated Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model Percussion Revolver with Acc
This is an excellent example of a rare factory silver plated Model 1849 Pocket revolver that was manufactured in 1854. The top barrel flat is marked "{ ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY}", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" and the cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The cylinder also has the W.L. Ormsby marking over "COLTS PATENT / No 97453". The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder, with the partial serial number "7453" marked on the loading lever, wedge and arbor pin. Brass cone front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with a one piece smooth varnished walnut grip. Complete in a mahogany case with hunter green velvet lining with a 250 count eley Bros. cap tin (partially full), Colt's Patent eagle flask, two cavity brass Colt's Patent bullet mold, key, a nipple wrench and an original unopened box of 5 combustible envelope cartridges
BBL: 5 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 31 percussion
Finish: silver
Grips: varnished walnut
Serial Number: 97453
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus of the original slightly frosted silver plating with some minor scattered flaking and "blistering". The finish is beginning to darken a bit with age on the butt. The cylinder retains all of the crisp and well defined scene. The grips are also excellent with a few overall minor dents and dings, some very minor lower edge wear and nearly all of the original varnish. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is fine with a small minor crack above and to the right of the key hole, the key hole escutcheon is absent and there are a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior. The lining is very fine with some mild contact wear, a loose compartment wall and some minor fraying of the lining. The flask and mold have an aged patina, the nipple wrench has a smooth mottled gray patina and the cartridge box is (as mentioned above) unopened and sealed in cellophane. A very nice, totally original, cased, rare factory silver plated Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver. A must have for any Colt percussion collection.
