Excellent light brown Albany slip glaze pig flask with an exceptional railroad and river guide. The railways all lead to St. Louis which is incised in a prominent location at the top of the pig along the incised Mississippi River identified by "Miss River" and a dot with the words incised "St. Louis the Capital City". Several towns are listed with many of them the representing the prominent stopping points along the railway. Towns listed are Carbondale, Duquin, Tamaroa, Ashley, Odin, Effingham, Matoon, Tolona, Chester, Grant Touner with Mound City and Cairo on the unflattering portions of the pigs anatomy. The underbelly is incised with "Ohio River and Cincinnati the Pork City" under the chin is Chicago the Corn City. Incised on the right side of the pig is "Railroad & River Guide with a little Good (spelt with an extra"O") Old Bourbon. This is a fine example of the railroad and river guide and would be a great addition to anyone's collection. H 3 1/2", L 7 3/4" D 3"
