Manufactured in 1947, this is an example of one of a few thousand guns that was assembled from leftover pre-war parts. These guns were often a mix of pre-war and post-war type finishes and markings, and most have the plastic extended grips from the U.S. contract Match Target pistols. This pistol has the post-war blue finish. These pistols represented the last of the First Series Woodsman's. This pistol has the standard two line address and patent marking on the left side of the barrel. "THE WOODSMAN" is on the left side of the frame and "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL..22 LONG RIFLE" followed by the Rampant Colt on the left side of the slide and the serial number is marked on the front strap. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with the number "5" over the Colt triangle "VP" proof, with "56" on the opposite. Fixed blade front and windage adjustable rear sights, serrated trigger, serrated panel on the back strap indicating it was designed for high velocity ammunition, blue Colt Woodsman marked magazine and fitted with checkered extended plastic grips with the "COLT" over the Rampant Colt in a circle molded at the top. These shorter barreled Woodsman were introduced in 1933 and were intended as a "take along" pistol due to the Woodsman's popularity with outdoorsmen. Complete with the original two piece maroon box numbered to the gun, with instruction sheet.
