This excellent original example of a Colt Single Action Army Revolver includes a Colt Factory Letter which states this revolver was sold to "J.C. Sudder" and shipped to the H &D Folsom Arms Company, New York, New York, on November 1, 1907. (Research has not been done on this individual.) The factory letter describes the revolver as having a .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with blue finish. The type of stocks are not listed. The revolver has the pre-WWI Colt high polish, commercial blue, finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, hammer and loading gate have a casehardened finish. The two-piece black hard rubber grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt trademark embossed in an oval at the top. The ejector rod has the late style, oval, head and the civilian style hammer has a cone shaped firing pin and short bordered knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line, elongated block address: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.Co. HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.-". The caliber: "45 COLT." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the "Three-Dates/Two-Line" patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The loading ate is stamped with the assembly number "4278". The Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow and a "6" assembler's mark is stamped on the left rear bow. The numeral "1" is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The full serial number "302242" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. "2242" is etched on the inside of both grips. The cylinder is, correctly, not serial numbered.
BBL: 7 1/2 In
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: blue/case-hardened
Grips: black hard rubber
Serial Number: 302242
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the original blue and 90% plus bright vivid casehardened finish. The barrel has the 'feathered' polishing marks on either side of the front sight; finish loss is limited to some minor wear on the edge of the muzzle and ejector housing and several handling marks. The cylinder has some minor edge wear and light turn marks. The blue finish on the inside of the trigger guard and grip strap is thin and there are light handling marks on the backs strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer retain 98% of the casehardened finish with vivid case colors. The frame and grip screws have most of the fiery niter blue finish. Both of the hard rubber grips are in excellent plus condition. All of the markings are sharp. The bore is bright. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. This is an excellent example of a 1907 production Colt Single Action Army Revolver which was sold to an individual.
