Excellent Pre-64 Winchester Super Grade Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle with Scope
Manufactured in 1950. This period saw an increase in yearly production to satisfy the growing demand for the Model 70. This rifle is a deluxe version of the standard rifle with Type III receiver. It has a hooded ramp front sight with the rear sight removed and a filler block added. Equipped with a Lyman Challenger scope mounted to the left side of the receiver. The scope has leather lens covers and the mount is produced by Griffin & Howe. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts, with polished bolt. Standard Winchester address, trademark, model and caliber information stamped on the barrel, with "-SUPER GRADE-" on the hinged floor plate. The barrel and receiver are without the factory proof (note that on occasion pre-64 Model 70s will be found with either or both proofs missing). Select walnut checkered and capped pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and checkered forend with black tip. Has the correct sling swivels, with leather sling and checkered steel buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retains approximately 98% original blue finish with some light spotting (mostly on the floor plate), some minor edge wear, and some minor scratches (mostly on the trigger guard). There is some minor thinning on the bolt handle, which has also been ground to clear scope. The stock is excellent with the exception of some minor dings and scratches, along with limited minor bruising in the overall crisp checkering. There is some chipping and crazing on the finish featured on the forearm tip. The scope retains approximately 95% original blue finish with wear on bells from its leather caps. Clear optics.
