Excellent Original U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle
Introduced before the First World War and seeing limited service into Korea, a combination of battlefield attrition, field expedient repairs and alterations to the design for manufacture have made original, unaltered 1903 rifles very rare. Hooded blade front and adjustable ladder rear sights, with the barrel marked "SA/ bomb/ 5-11" and standard markings on the receiver ring. Correct early features, with the second variation dished and heavy knurled adjustment knobs on the rear sight and the "J1" marked straight bolt handle, and the finish is a fine blue on the barrel, bolt, barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate, oil quenched casehardening on the receiver and bright water quenched casehardening on the safety, cocking piece and magazine cutoff. Smooth straight grip stock, in the early single bolt "S" style, with high humped handguard, finger grooves, "JFC" cartouche on the left side, "L/ F" in the cutoff recess, "15" inspector mark and circled script "P" behind the trigger guard, sling swivels and a finely checkered flat buttplate.

Condition: Excellent. With the exception of the professionally restored triggerguard and screws, the blue components show 95% plus bright original finish, with minor edge wear and a small amount of brown patina. The receiver shows a deep mixed case color, with the water quenched parts bright and vivid. Excellent stock, with matching color, crisp markings and a few tiny chips and scratches. Overall an exceptionally nice, original and unaltered Pre-war Model 1903 Springfield.
