Excellent Moore's Patent Firearms Co., No. 1 Deringer with Rare Arrow Markings Case
Breech-loading, single, shot, Deringer pistol manufactured by Moore's Patent Firearms Company of Brooklyn, New York between 1863 and 1865. The successor to Moore, National Arms Company, was purchased by Colt Firearms Company in 1870. Colt manufactured the Moore/National Firearms Deringer as the "First Model Deringer". The Moore No. 1 Deringer is historically significant as the first large caliber, metallic cartridge, deringer pistol. This standard production No. 1 Deringer has a silver-plated finish and is decorated with the broad scroll engraving on the barrel and frame that was standard on these pistols. The deringer has a curved trigger sheath and the barrel release button on the right side of the frame. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MOORE"S PAT.F.A.CO.BROOKLYN N.Y." in a single line. This pistol has the scarce variant marking with large arrows engraved on either side of the barrel. The underside of the barrel is roll-stamped: "D. MOORE PATENT FEB.24,1863". The serial number, "1587" is located on the underside of the barrel stamped perpendicular to the axis of the bore. The pistol is complete with an oval, two compartment case with purple lining and a black leatherette exterior. The case lid has an impressed, five-pointed, star in the center with the markings "DAVIDSON/PATENT/---NCE". The case is complete with four, .41 Rimfire cartridges.

Excellent. The pistol retains 95% of the original silver-plated finish. There is some moderate-heavy pitting on the left side of the frame and the junction of the barrel and frame. There is some scattered light pitting on the right side of the barrel and frame. The barrel markings are legible. The case is in fine condition. The black, leatherette finish is worn around the edges of the lid and the top of the inner case lip. The markings on the top of the lid are mostly ledgible. The purple velvet case lining is in very good condition: wear is limited to some minor compression marks from the deringer. This is a very good example of an original Moore's Patent, No. 1 Deringer with rarely encountered case.
