This is a very nice example of a WWI 1896 Mauser Red 9 Broomhandle pistol, that is complete with a wooden combination shoulder stock/holster and the original leather carrying harness. The left side of the barrel/upper receiver area is marked with a "crown/U" proof followed by a small "GERMANY", the upper right side is marked "1920" over an "S" in a circle, the upper left has the serial number and the top is marked "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N.". The underside of the barrel at the frame is marked with a star within a star and various numbers and letters. The right rear of the frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A NECKAR". The back strap is marked "1" followed by "66", "crown/U" proof on top of the bolt handle, New Safety marked hammer and matching visible serial numbers. It has the standard sights with the rear sight graduated from 50-500 meters. It is fitted with matching walnut grips with 24 grooves that have the large "9" burned into each side that have been filled with red paint. The pistol has the pre-war rust blued finish with heat blued finish on the various small parts. The wooden stock/holster is unmarked except for "979" on the attaching iron. The reproduction leather carrying harness is marked "APH. HOFFMANN / BERLIN / 1916" on the back between the belt loops and it is complete with the original walnut handled cleaning rod.

Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 95% plus original finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, and some wear on the back strap from attaching the stock. The grips are also excellent with a few minor dents and scratches. Markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The wooden stock is good with a few minor cracks, and the reproduction harness is very good with some minor age cracking and tight stitching.
