Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1908 Military
This is an excellent example of a very late 1913 dated DWM Model 1908 military contract Luger pistol rig. These model 1908 Military Lugers were the true first German Military contract Lugers and all fall into a general serial number range of 34 to approximately 4828b with this specific example being early (1139) in the (a) suffix serial number range. The 1908 models are identified by having no date on top of the chamber area with military proofs on the left side of the barrel extension, no hold-open device and no stock lug on the frame. However some of these very late production models were actually manufactured in the start of the model 1914 production. Consequently they will show a transition of markings and features, such as this example, which has the acceptance and proofmarks on the right side of the barrel extension is dated 1913 over the chamber area, has been fitted for the hold-open device, however it still lacks the stock lug. It still has the DWM logo on the front toggle and is correctly numbered in the military manner with full serial number on the front of the frame, underside of the barrel and left side of the barrel extension. The various small parts have the correct last two digits of the serial number. It is complete with two unmarked, nickel plated, magazines with the unmarked wood bases. The holster is marked on the inside of the flap "AWUNBER????/1913" with an ink stamp of "B.A.VI/1913/cr.10" below that.
