This excellent, original Colt Super 38 Model Automatic Pistol was manufactured in 1929 the first year of production. The pistol has the Colt commercial blue finish, blued barrel with polished chamber, full blue, 9-shot magazine and full checkered walnut stocks. The slide has the half-moon front sight blade fitted to Super .38 Pistols and the mainspring housing correctly lacks the lanyard loop found on .45 Government Model pistols. The serial number, "1676", is located on the right side of the frame behind the slide stop hole. "20" is stamped on the right side of the trigger guard bow. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "1" assembler's mark and the Colt "triangle V/P" commercial proofmark. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLT SUPER .38/ AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the elongated Hartford address and 1907-1913 patent dates. An "S" production order mark is stamped on the top of the frame to the right of the disconnector hole. The rear face of the slide is stamped with the serial number, "16/76" underneath the firing pin stop. The slide and frame serial numbers match. A "K" is stamped on the underside of the barrel ahead of the lug. The magazine floor plate is stamped: "COLT SUPER/38 AUTO". Introduced in 1929 the Colt Super .38 Semi-Automatic was marketed as a high performance alternative to the Colt .45 Government Model. Consignor states this pistol was shipped 4/30/29 to a Dr. William F. Howerter M.D.

Condition: Excellent . The pistol retains 99% of the original blue finish. Wear is limited to several superficial and barely noticeable spots of surface rust on the top edge of the left side frame, several take-down marks below the slide stop and some very minor storage scuff marks. The barrel has 98% of the original finish. The replacement later prewar production magazine has 97% of the all blue finish (not dual tone) with some edge wear on the floor plate. The walnut stocks are in nearly new condition. This is an excellent example of a scarce, first year production, Colt Super .38 Semi-Automatic Pistol in near mint condition.
