Excellent First Year Production Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol
This is an excellent example of a three digit serialized Colt Government Model pistol that was manufactured in 1912, the first year of production. The pistol has the high polish commercial blue finish and checkered walnut grips with a diamond border around the screw ferrules. The pistol has the early pattern short hammer, rounded rear sight, safety lock and is complete with a blue flat base magazine. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897, 1902, 1905 and 1911 patent dates in a two-line block followed by the Hartford address in a second, two-line block. The Rampant Colt trademark is stamped on the left side of the slide behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 45" directly below the ejection port. The left upper front of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "VP" triangle proofmark and the assembler's mark "K" on the lower rear. The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number and the right side "GOVERNMENT MODEL". The barrel is blued and has a rough, brushed finish on the lower sides of the chamber next to the lug. The bottom of the barrel ahead of the lug is marked with the letter "N". The top of the frame has an "S" commercial sales mark behind the disconnector hole and a "4" assembler's mark to the right of the hole.

Excellent. The pistol retains 90% of the bright original high polish blue finish with an area of smooth gray on the lower left side of the slide, some scattered light flaking, some smooth gray on the front strap, thinning on the backstrap, scattered minor scratches and high edge wear. 80% of the original bright niter blue remains on the small components with an area on the thumb safety that has some loss due to a solvent or chemical, and wear on the high edge of the rear sight. The grips are very fine with a few overall nicks in the checkering, some minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The mechanics are excellent. The magazine is a later production replacement.
