Approximately 10,000 of these magazine pistols were manufactured from 1871 to 1888. This Joseph Rider design is one of the most unusual of 19th century pocket pistols using a tubular magazine, which is located under the barrel. Blade front sight with rear sight being a hole in the cocking lever. Magazine loads from the muzzle end. Standard two line address/Rider patent date marking on top of the barrel rib. The pistol is nickel plated, with the trigger and hammer niter blue. The sides of the frame and the back strap are engraved with a broad leaf floral scroll and punch dot design. The upper barrel flats have a simple zigzag and there is an accent pattern on the side flats. The upper frame flats have a geometric and feather pattern. Fitted with smooth two piece ivory grips.
