The revolver is almost fully engraved with the distinctive punch dot style associated with Merwin. The left rear of the frame also features a mountain lions head in a round panel. The hammer, trigger guard, trigger and barrel latch have a casehardened finish with the remaining parts nickel plated. The left side of the barrel is marked with the one line Hopkins and Allen address, and "CALIBRE / WINCHESTER 1873" is located on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the grip extension and the matching assembly number "624" is marked on the frame under the grip, on the rear face of the cylinder, inside of the barrel lug and on the arbor pin. The revolver is fitted with factory ivory grips. Complete with a tooled double loop brown leather holster with "44" marked on the top loop and "113" on he bottom loop, and a canvas cartridge belt with a brass buckle embossed with a dogs head and Anson Mills patent date on the catch.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the untouched original nickel finish with some minor muzzle wear and loss at the breech end. There is some discoloration in four of the cylinder flutes. The hammer, trigger and trigger guard have a smooth gray patina with strong original case colors in protected area of the trigger guard. With the exception of two separated breaks on the upper right panel, the grips are fine with a few minor scratches and a darker mellow patina on the left panel. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The action is fine. The holster is very good with some heavy wear and a separation on the upper loop. The cartridge belt is very good. A truly attractive, original Old West revolver rig!
