Excellent Early Production Colt Sporting Model 1902 Semi-Automatic Pistol
Produced in 1903, the introductory year for the 1902 pistol, with the early style front slide serrations, followed by "BROWNING'S PATENT"/PAT'D APRIL 20. 1897/SEPTEMBER 9. 1902", "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." and the encircled Rampant Colt behind the address on the left side and "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" on the right. The left side of the slide is marked with the serial number, and fitted with a checkered, casehardened long spur hammer, niter blue trigger, distinctive Sporting-style rounded butt and checkered grips with Colt banners and logos. The magazine floor plate is correctly marked: "PAT'D SEPT. 9.1884" in one line.

Condition: Excellent, with 95% of the original high polish blue finish, showing some thinning on the top of the slide and numerous scattered spots of surface rust and handling marks on the slide and frame. 90% of the original niter blue is present on the barrel and trigger, with bright and vivid case colors on the hammer. The grips are excellent, taking on a fine aged brown color, most developed on the left panel (see photo), with light pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
