This is an excellent example of a Colt First Series Pre woodsman pistol manufactured in 1916, the second year of production. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED DEC. 22, 1903", the left side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC / CAL. 22 LONG RIFLE", with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations and the serial number marked on the front strap. Distinctive "pencil barrel", with elevation adjustable front blade sight with a brass bead, windage adjustable rear sight, oval checkered panel on the back strap, smooth trigger, and fitted with checkered walnut grips. The pistol has the early two tone magazine with the brass follower and a hole on the upper left side and the chamber appendage. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 30 to Iver Johnson sporting Goods Company, Boston, Massachusetts on June 23, 1916.

Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 95% plus original blue finish with some bright muzzle and edge wear, and some thinning on the barrel. The grips are also excellent with a pressure dent on the left panel and some minor wear to the otherwise very crisp checkering. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
