This late production black powder frame revolver has the Colt high polish, commercial blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a casehardened finish. The frame screws and trigger are niter blue. The ejector rod has the late oval head. The black two-piece, hard rubber grips are checkered and embossed with the Eagle/Shield motif and an oval enclosing the Rampant Colt trademark. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". The bottom of the barrel is stamped with a "W" inspection mark followed by the caliber designation "44" immediately in front of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Three-Date/Two-Line" patent marking followed by the circled Rampant Colt trademark. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "958". An "O" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The full serial number is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match.
