Excellent DWM Model 1914 Navy Luger Dated 1916

Estimate: $4250 - 6000
This is a standard issue, mid-WWI, Navy Luger that was manufactured by the DWM factory in 1916. The 1914 pattern Navy Lugers are very distinctive in that they lack the grip safety, have a stock lug on the lower rear grip strap and have the flat style checkered toggles, along with the distinctive, six-inch barrel with the correct two-position Navy rear sight adjustable from 100-200 meters. The chamber is dated 1916 and so is the left side of the front sight and the left frame rail. The front toggle is marked with the "DWM" scroll. The left side of the barrel extension has the double "Crown" proof along with two Crown over "M" Navy proofs. The left side of the barrel also has the single Crown proof and the underside of the barrel has the small Crown over "M" proof. It has a standard WWI, nickel plate magazine with the standard wooden bottom base that is numbered 14 with no proof marks.
BBL: 6 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 3590
Condition: Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish with scattered dings and surface blemishes, the balance turning a brown patina with finish loss on the edges and high spots. The various small parts retain 60% of their straw colors overall. The excellent grips are a period replacement that have been renumbered to match the pistol, and have nice distinct checkering on both sides. The pistol has matching numbers except the firing pin which is unnumbered and the grips and magazine as noted above. A very fine example of a WWI era Imperial German Navy Luger pistol
