This is an original example of a Colt Model 1908 pocket automatic pistol with an original factory box and instruction pamphlet that was manufactured in 1935. These pistols were essentially the same as the 32 caliber Pocket Hammerless Automatic Pistol but chambered for the more potent 380 ACP cartridge, also known as the 9mm Browning short. Colt manufactured approximately 138,000 in the 380 caliber for civilian sales and an unknown number were sold to the military. The left side of the slide is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED APR. 20,1897, DEC. 22, 1903" with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame. The right side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS". The Colt factory inspector proof of "75" on the right upper front of the trigger guard bow and the left side is marked with a "X" over the "VP" triangle proof. It is equipped with fixed sights, two tone magazine marked "CAL .380 / COLT" on the floor plate and checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions. The pistol is complete with an original Colt hinged lid box numbered to the gun, the correct interior "labels" and the instructions. The outside of the box has the correct white lettered green end label on the body and green lettered white label on the lid end.
BBL: 3 3/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 380 ACP
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 119905
Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 95% of the original blue finish with some edge wear and flaking on the slide, some very mild thinning and spotting on the grip safety and front strap, and overall some minor scratches and handling marks. There is some wear on the sides of the trigger and thinning on the slide safety. The grips are also excellent with some minor wear and bruising of the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The mechanics are excellent. The box is good with one of the lid flaps separated (in the box) and some corner and edge wear. The instructions are oily and have a few stains, with 50% of the lid end label remain and 75% of the other remains.
