Excellent Colt Model 1902 Military Semi-Automatic Pistol
This excellent original example of a Colt Model 1902 Military Semi-Automatic pistol was manufactured in 1908. The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the slide and frame, niter blue trigger, rear sight screws and other small parts and a color casehardened hammer. The pistol is fitted with two-piece, black, hard rubber, checkered stocks. The stocks haves the encircled Rampant Colt trademark in the middle and "Colt" in a banner at the top. The pistol has the distinctive long lower grip with a swivel lanyard loop on the left side, eight-shot magazine and slide stop on the left side of the frame. The later pattern slide has serrations on the rear. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the later style marking which consists of: "PATENTED/APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9.1902.", followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." in two unequal blocks with the encircled Rampant Colt trademark behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines in front of the ejection port. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the serial number, "31570", above the trigger guard and the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark on the upper left side of the trigger guard and the Colt "6" assembler's mark on the lower part of the bow. The magazine has a high polish blue finish and is stamped: "CAL. 38/COLT" in two lines on the bottom of the floor plate. The Colt Model 1902 Military Automatic Pistol was manufactured by Colt from 1902 to 1929 and gained a reputation as a accurate, hard-hitting pistol.

Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 97% of the bright original, high polish, blue finish. Finish wear is limited to some edge wear at the muzzle and high points of the slide and some thinning on the grip straps. The hammer has all of the vivid case colors, About 85% of the delicate niter blue is present on the trigger and other small parts. The grips are in excellent condition. All of the markings are sharp. The bore is bright. The magazine retains about 95% of the original blue finish with a brown patina on the floor plate. This is an excellent example of one of Colt's and John M. Browning's early successful automatic pistol designs.
