Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver manufactured in 1861. The revolver has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame, and hammer and silver-plated brass trigger guard and back strap. The one-piece walnut grip has a high gloss varnish finish. The six-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLT'S PATENT". The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the fourth style, one-line, legend: "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.". "COLTS/PATENT" is roll stamped on the left side of the frame. The full serial number, "190242" is located on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The partial serial number, "0242", is stamped on the loading lever. The wedge and cylinder are numbered "90242". All of the visible serial numbers match. The diminutive Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver was the largest selling Colt percussion firearm; many model 1849 revolvers were privately purchased as personal sidearms during the Civil War.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver is completely original and retains 95% plus of the original casehardened finish. The barrel and cylinder retain 75% of the high polish blue finish overall. There is some flaking on the upper barrel flats and several scratches on the bottom of the barrel beneath the loading lever. The cylinder has patches of the bright blue finish flaked off and retains nearly all of the Stagecoach Holdup scene. The loading lever, hammer and frame retains more than 90% of the original casehardened finish. The case colors are bright. The brass back strap and trigger guard retain about 80% of the silver-plated finish. The crisp silver-plating is tarnished dark with 90% remaining. The cylinder has minimal flash pitting on the front and rear face and percussion nipples. Five of the six cylinder safety pins are intact. The barrel, frame and cylinder markings are crisp. The grips are in excellent condition; nearly all of the high polish piano finish remains intact; wear is limited to some minor dents on the butt and lower edges of the grip. This is an excellent example of a Civil War era Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver that would enhance any collection!
