Pre-Stamp Cover, 1836, Ship Letter, London to Calcutta, dispatched from London on 25th June 1836. A payment seal in Red ink applied that reads “PAID | 25 JUNE | 1836”, and the dispatch postmark of oval shape “PAID SHIP LETTER LONDON | (CROWN) | 25 JU 25 | 1836” in Red ink was also applied. As per the “MSS” this letter was sent by per ship “Mecca via Suez to Bombay Thence” to the addressee “James Pattle Esquire”, Calcutta, Bengal. The cover bears round shaped seal in Red ink of “G.P.O | DEC 9 | 1836”, besides it another postmark in Black ink that reads as “Inld Ptg 3 | ShipDO 3 | 1 AS 6”, Giles type # CS9 postmark, one of the early pre-stamp marks from Calcutta, intact condition, Exceedingly Rare.
