Pre-Stamp Cover, 1836/1837, Bangalore Post Paid & Ship Letter, Capsule-shaped postmark, dispatched from Bangalore on 31st Dec. 1836. Capsule-shaped seal in Red ink of “BANGALORE Post-Paid”. Dispatch seal of a concentric circle shape in Black ink “OUT STATION | SHIP LETTER in an outer circle with MADRAS | 3JA 3 | 1837 in the inner circle”. Another postmark of oval-shaped in Black ink “MADRAS | 8JA 3 | 1837” with an interesting rectangular-shaped postmark in Red ink “INDIA LETTER | GRAVESEND”.

The letter was originally addressed to EDINBURGH | SCOTLAND, it landed in Gravesend port, where the postmark in Red ink of “INDIA LETTER | GRAVESEND” was applied and then it went through BEDFORD, LONDON. The postage value was increased by “½d” and this seal is visible within a square in Black ink, relevant delivery seal/stamps are also present on the cover in Black ink that reads as “MAY | C8 N | 1837”, Type# HG8, MS6, MX7, excellent and intact quality, Exceedingly Rare.
