Maratha Confederacy, Saharanpur Dar-us-surur Mint, Silver Rupee, AH (120)8 /35 RY, "Saya-e-fazle Elah" Couplet, In the name of Shah Alam II (AH 1174-1221 /1759-1806 AD), Obv: Persian legend "Sikka zad bar haft kishwar Saya-e-fazle Elah, Hami din-e Muhammad, Shah Alam Badshah" & Nagari word "Tant or Tat" in between Hami din, Rev: Persian legend "sana 35 julus" & "zarb Saharanpur" with the epithet "Dar us surur" completely visible at the top, 11.22g,22mm, (Unlisted in KM / M & W), no test mark, attractive, AU to UNC, Exceedingly Rare.
Note: The Maratha army advanced to Saharanpur, seizing the jagir of Ghulam Qadir. Meanwhile, they annexed the greater part of the Doab, along with the provinces of Delhi and Agra, establishing Maratha dominance. Ghani Bahadur of Banda became the first Maratha governor of Saharanpur, succeeded by Bhairon Pant Tantia in 1791. Following the death of Mahadji Sindhia in 1794, his viceroy Gopal Bhau appointed Bhairon Pant Tantia to Saharanpur. The Nagari word "Tant or Tat" on this coin might be connected to him.
