Ex. Rare Ballots for Both Suffrage Pinback
Extremely Rare "Ballots for Both" Suffrage Pinback, 20mm diameter, black type on metallic gold background. Very fine condition. The origin for this slogan pin occurred in 1916 when the North American Woman Suffrage Association decided to hold a contest to replace the then current slogan of "Votes for Women" borrowed from the English movement. It was felt by some that "Votes for Women" could be regarded as exclusionary for men. There were many thousands of entries in that contest, eventually won by Dr. Eleanor M. Hiestand-Moore of Philadelphia, and the slogan was first used at the Pennsylvania State Suffrage Convention the week of November 25, 1916. This elusive pin is the only known usage of the slogan on a political badge.

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
