Evie Hone (1894-1955) MARLEY WOOD signed and dated [1943] lower right; titled on reverse oil on board 58 by 83cm., 23 by 32.5in. Hone often found inspiration in the woods and lake surrounding her studio at the Dower House at Marley (sometimes spelt "Marlay"), Rathfarnham. In 1938 she exhibited "Trees at Marlay" and "Marlay Wood" at the WCSI. "The Lake" and "Landscape with Tree" (IELA 1943) were presumably also based on the Marley Woods and "The Pond, Marlay" (WCSI 1944) and "Winter Day, Marlay" (WCSI 1945) were most definitely so. An oil painting entitled: "Snow at Marlay" (circa 1947) was included in the Hone retrospective of 1958 and is now in the collection of the NGI.€9000-€10000 (IR £7000-£7800 approx.)
