There are three issues of the "Evening Bulletin" from San Francisco updating on the Modoc War; the Death of Mrs. McKay in Virginia City, Nevada; and the Senate debate of financing the Sutro Tunnel. The efforts to negotiate peace with the Modoc people resulting in the death of Gen. Canby less than two months later. The Modoc people claim that they were being stared on the Klamath Reservation. Mrs. Amelia Mckay wife of the Gould & Curry mine engineer (George McKay) was killed on the site on February 27th, 1873. The fate of the Sutro Tunnel was debated after hours on the senate floor where A. Sutro was not looking for a subsidy but a loan. All good reading; spoiler alert. In three issues.
