Two ALSs from acclaimed English novelist Evelyn Waugh to the esteemed London-based bookbinders Sangorski & Sutcliffe, both one page, penned on her personal Combe Florey House stationery card and letterhead, 5.5 x 3.5 and 8.75 x 10.75. The first handwritten letter, August 9th, no year but circa 1961-62, in part: “I am sending you under separate cover the manuscripts of three novels ‘Men at Arms,’ ‘Officers & Gentlemen’ and ‘Unconditional Surrender’ to be bound in 1/4 red morocco, 3/4 linen buckram. Arms on both sides. Lettered at back & dated at foot of back 1952, 1955, 1961 respectively”; and the second, no date, circa 1964, in part: “Chapman & Hall tell me that they sent you three sets of sheets of my A Little Learning to be bound in full morocco…I should be glad to hear that the work is nearing completion.” Reverse of card is addressed by Waugh. In overall fine condition.
