European two-handed sword measuring 52-3/8” in length with 37-3/4” blade. Blade measures approx. 1-5/8” across widest part at hilt. Blade shows a raised median ridge and has been slightly reduced in length. The blade shows brass inlaid letters Vive Le Roy (Long Live the King). The sword shows brass mounts that are gold gilted with figures of stag at each end of quillon and fox at middle portion of sword. The ball shaped pommel shows a hand engraving in stylized stag head similar to those on the quillons. The grip is braided brass wire over brass. The blade is nicely tempered and shows a good patina with some slight pitting and erosion. The stags mounted on each end of the quillon show losses to their horns. The grip shows a deep and pleasing patina, the sword is of unique style and very well balanced and no other sword of this style or design can be found in our reference works. The styling of the blade is 16th to 17th century, but also has 19th century characteristics. In any case it is definitely antique and is very decorative and interesting. Est: $2,500 - $7,500
