European two-handed broadsword circa 1550-1650 measuring approx. 53-1/4” overall with 41-1/4” blade. And approx. 16-5/8” across the quillons. The blade has been shortened during period of use approx. 6” and the hilt shows an old steel wire rewrap which was probably prior to the 19th century and possibly during the period of use. The pommel and hilt show a matching patina and are completely hand forged and of the period as is the blade. The elements have been together since their working life. The metal surfaces show a matching patina with a scattered light to moderate pitting overall and couple areas of slightly heavy pitting that are minor. There are no markings or identification but definitely Continental European, probably Central Europe. From the Hugh Hayes collection. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
