European military issue musket, probably Belgian, marked V 1838 on breech, converted from flintlock to percussion, breech shows Belgian and GB stamps. The musket measures 58" overall with 42" barrel secured by 3bands, that is approximately .69 cal. smooth bore. The metal surfaces are in good to very good condition with some light erosion, pinprick pitting, mostly at the area of the breech; the stock shows good inspections andcartouches, the butt plate shows some moderate to heavy pitting. An original to-the-period ramrod and bayonet are included. The action good, and generally good overall. Many of these type of European muskets were imported and used during the Civil War.
