European made military style flintlock musket showing probable American restock in a reddish colored wood with no bands. The musket shows an unidentified proof just in front of the frizzen area along with the initial “B” and numerals“411”. The musket measures 58 ½” overall with almost 43” barrel of 75+ caliber. Brass mounts with no side plate and locks is secured by a single screw. The left side of the stock beneath the screw is stamped in neat block letters with aprofessional stamping “F.F. Webster” and there is a carved set of initials or design cut above the stamp. The metal surfaces show a gray patina finish with some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The top jaw and screw are oldreplacements and handmade. The wood is very good plus other than a large piece nailed in front top edge in front of lock which is an old repair. There is a stamped proof or inspectors mark in front of the trigger guard and behind the tangwhich we cannot identify. The lock shows a banana shape and is pre-1750 in our opinion. A very interesting and early European arm that may have been American restocked and issued to militia. Est.: $1400-$2800
