European left-handed dagger circa early to mid 17th century showing pierced and scalloped guard, large bent quillons, Germanic style, 16-1/4” overall, 11” blade, which measures approx. 1” across ricasso. The blade shows good forging and is in good condition with some normal aging, rust, and erosion. The guard is also properly made and forged, and the pommel also a original to the period faceted pommel. The grip is properly wrapped with braided wire. The pommel nut shows possible replacement of blade during period of uses or removal to restore wrap on the handle. A very good dagger with all period elements that may have been associated in the 19th century but also could be completely original, just a with a rewrapped handle by a museum quality restorer. A good dagger in any event. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
