European large bore pin fire Blunderbuss pistol circa 1860’s with flared cannon mouth brass barrel, 12 gauge showing under lever barrel release. There is a crown “M” proof inside the action and the barrels arenumbered 172. The pistol measures 13-1/2” overall with nearly 6-3/4” barrel that is almost 2” across the muzzle. The stocks are nicely checkered and the butt shows a French type shape. The pistol retains about 20% ofan old period nickel plate and some pitting and erosion. A piece of metal has been lost from one of the two escutcheons around lock plate screws. The hammer is detached and screw missing and in need of repairs. Froman old N.Y. collector’s estate.
