European Cuirass and a Prussian Style Decorative Parade Helmet
1) Fine European Cuirass. First appearing in the late 15th Century, the cuirassier, an armored, pistol armed cavalryman, was part of European militaries up until World War One. One such unit was the Garde de Corps of Prussia, bodyguards to the king, who included the cuirass as a standard part of their uniform. Secured with a leather belt at the midsection and a pair of leather backed brass chain straps going over the shoulder with brass panels and leather tabs to connect to a set of brackets on the front piece. A series of round brass tacks run the border of the cuirass, serving both as decoration and to secure the burlap liner on the inside. A bullet proof is visible on the left side of the front plate, and a set of three hallmarks, "GF", "crown" and "Z" are present between the tacks on the left side, and "AA/ 1272" on the right, both covered by the waist belt. 2) Prussian style decorative parade helmet, brass construction with a gilt brass plated leather chinstrap, red white and black hinge cockades, silver Order of the Black Eagle badge dated 1860 and a large crowned silver eagle, 6" tall and 7 5/8" wide on top.
