Large Antique European 12-Shot Double-Action Military Pinfire Revolver, unmarked but in the Lefaucheux style and likely of French mfg., NVSN, 9mm pinfire cal., 5.625'' octagonal barrel has vacant dovetail for front sight (missing) and a right-side rod to eject spent cartridges; round 12-shot cylinder has raised turning ratchets, is marked only with a ''1'' (or ''I'') on front face; open-top frame is marked with a tiny ''5'' at right, has right-side hinged loading gate, tall central hammer, separate loop trigger guard, integral gripstraps with faceted buttcap having a lanyard ring, two-piece varnished hardwood grips. Mfg'd ca. 1860s-70s, originally with full-blued finish but for case hardened hammer, trigger and loading gate. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 92% original dull military blue finish, thinning at backstrap, with occasional light marks and frosting; hammer, trigger and loading gate show light case colors but have mostly turned silver. Grips are sound and fit well showing scattered light marks and most original varnish. Action is strong and smooth but does not revolver cylinder; bore is clean showing light erosion toward muzzle and faint rifling. This is a very rare Civil War-era revolver, in exceptional condition. Est.: $1,000-$2,000. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
