Framed Ribbon medal from the WF of M, Eureka Miner`s Union, No. 265. Eureka had the distinction of being the Number 2 producer in the State behind the Comstock between 1869 and 1892, when the Goldfield lodes began to take over. The WF of M began in 1893, after the Coeur d`Alene ID strike of 1892. It became known for violence and militancy, particularly stemming from the Cripple Creek CO`s strike of 1894. Mine owners demanded a 10-hour workday for less than $3, and the miners demanded the standard 8-hour day and $3 remain. The ensuing violence allowed the strikers to win the day. By 1903, the WF of M had the dubious honor of establishing itself as the most militant labor organization in America. This fabulous piece is extremely rare. Frame measures 16" x 12". Excellent condition. - Jacobitz Collection -59719
