Eureka Deeds and Checks
Lot of 9 that includes 3 land transactions and 6 checks from Eureka County, NV. The 3 indenture documents were filed from 1875 to 1879, for parcels of land in the county. While two of the three are pretty standard, selling land for gold coin, the one from December, 1878 between Giovanni Comarita and Pietro Tolomeri, requires Tolomeri to pay 5,500 bushels of “merchantilable (sic) charcoal” to purchase property from Comarita. Another transaction, dated 15 September 1875, transfers ownership of the Ferstimaker Timber Ranch from A.W. Davis to Barbieri and Company for $600.00 in gold. The third, a mortgage dated 5 February 1875, gave John Torre ownership of the Chase Ranch, McCormick Ranch and Gallagher Ranch from Antonio Dell’Anna for the sum of $813.56 in gold coin. Of the 6 checks, 3 were written on the Odd Fellows Hall of Eureka Lodge No. 22, from March 1887 to June of the same year. The payments were issued for wood, benefits and hall rental. All are endorsed on the back. A $25.00 check written on Paxton & Company Bankers to W.P Haskell has a RG-B revenue stamp on the face and is endorsed by the payee W.P. Haskell on the back. The final check in the lot was written on Ruby Hill Tunnel and Mining Company to an E. Skillman in the amount of $18.00 for printing services. There is no endorsement. All pieces are in good to very good condition.
