Last Empress consort of the French from 1853 to 1871 as the wife of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French. Two letters, in French: LS, one page, 7.5 x 12.25, dated February 28, 1856, to a Cardinal. In part (translated): “The feelings expressed in your letter touched me deeply since I know how true and sincere they are. It is very sweet to me to join my prayers to yours for the good of our Holy Religion and the happiness of France.” Affixed next to her signature on the letter is an albumen print of Eugenie in mourning, seated at a desk contemplating a photo; LS, one page, 8 x 12.25, dated February 24, 1858, to Cardinal Barnabo. In part (translated): “It is most agreeable for me to express to you how much I was touched and at the same time to thank you for the prayers which you address to heaven for happiness of all those who are dear to me. Be assured that I shall always be disposed to give you tokens of my perfect esteem and of my sincere affection.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In very good overall condition.
