First issue of The American Spectator: A Literary Newspaper from November 1932, four pages, 17.5 x 22.5, signed in fountain pen by its five editors and its publisher: Eugene O'Neill, Theodore Dreiser, George Jean Nathan, Ernest Boyd, James Branch Cabell, and Richard R. Smith. In fine condition, with light toning along the folds and a small split at center. The publication of The American Spectator was hotly anticipated in literary circles, and the first issue was so successful that an additional 20,000 copies had to be printed to meet demand. The original editorial board lasted until 1934, when Dreiser resigned over a conflict regarding the rejection of his articles on social and economic issues.
