Featured in this lot is this sand painting called " In Time For Beauty," circa 1986 from Navajo artist Eugene Baatsoslanii born in 1951. The artwork is wonderfully and professionally crafted sandpainting. The painting shows a depiction of of a woven basket and a ola pottery vessel that shows two cripple creek turquoise cabochon set into the eyes of the lizard and to the back of the lizard. The artwork shows bands of geometric patterns and shows the artist signature in the bottom left had corner and shows the title and artist name hand drawn on the back of the artwork. Sand paintings are stylized, symbolic pictures prepared by trickling small quantities of crushed, coloured sandstone, charcoal, pollen, or other dry materials in white, blue, yellow, black, and red hues on a background of clean, smoothed sand. Biography. Eugene Baatsoslanii Joe is a well known Navajo sandpainter. Eugene's contemporary sandpaintings are well designed, very intricate and beautiful. Eugene includes sand designs of pottery with turquoise pieces of adornment, weavings, and fetish bears. The condition of this sand painted artwork shows no obvious signs of damage to the artwork or to the frame of the piece. The measurements of this framed artwork is 34 1/4" x 28 1/4" and the visible art measures 23 1/4" x 17 1/4".
